Community Hatchery Program

PrintCommunity-based fish culture is built on a foundation of passion, dedication and genuine concern for resource management.  For decades, thousands of hatchery volunteers have raised and stocked fish to improve our recreational fisheries and educate the people of Ontario about our fisheries resource. Fish stocking and community engagement are two very important components of fisheries management in Ontario.  Raising and stocking fish contributes to greater recreational angling opportunities, and helps rehabilitate fish populations.

In March 2013, the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH), in partnership with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF), launched the Community Hatchery Program (CHP) to grant funding support to eligible community hatcheries and provide strategic and targeted support for Ontario’s community fish culture and stocking efforts. The OFAH is proud to deliver this important, dedicated program that raises public fish for public waters in Ontario.
