OFAH Youth ‘Get Outdoors’ This Weekend
From across the province, 80 youth will come together at the Get Outdoors Youth Leadership Conference this weekend to take part in activities that encompass our outdoor heritage. Whether they come from the country or the city, each of these youth has a common passion, to ‘get outdoors.’
With the theme of ‘Waterfowl and Wetlands,’ this eager young generation will be engaged in a hands-on workshop with the Long Point Waterfowlers on Friday that will cover the importance of conserving our wetlands, tips when out in the field, waterfowl identification and calling, and dog retrieval demonstrations. The youth will also participate in an animal calling contest that will test their newly learned skills.
On Saturday, participants will journey to the Dufferin Northern Peel Anglers & Hunters Association for an action-packed day on the ranges. With one-on-one instruction from qualified instructors, youth will have the opportunity to take part in trap shooting, rifle shooting and archery. In addition to the safe practices learned on these ranges, youth will also gain skills in fly tying and invertebrate identification to use in their future fishing adventures. Keeping with this year’s theme, youth will utilize the knowledge gained from the Long Point Waterfowlers to engage in an activity that will bring the importance of conservation to life.

The Get Outdoors program was launched by the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH) in 2002 to inspire more youth involvement in hunting, fishing and conservation.
