OFAH Clubs Support Conservation Locally
Dedicated clubs recognized for contribution to OFAH Conservation Lottery

Every year at its annual conference, the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH), Ontario’s largest nonprofit fish and wildlife conservation organization recognizes the efforts of OFAH member clubs for fundraising through the Federation’s biggest fundraiser, the OFAH Conservation Lottery. On March 16, for the second consecutive year, the Georgian Bay Anglers and Hunters and Sudbury Game and Fish Protective Association were honored for their success as sales leaders.

“The Georgian Bay Anglers and Hunters and the Sudbury Game and Fish Protective Association each demonstrate the highest level of commitment to fish and wildlife conservation in their communities and beyond,” said Bill Blackwell, OFAH President. “Club members spend countless hours selling lottery tickets to deliver on that commitment, and we are proud to once again be recognizing their contributions.”

The Bert Austin Trophy for highest sales went to now four-time winner, the Georgian Bay Anglers and Hunters for selling an impressive 926 books of tickets. The Sudbury Game and Fish Protective Association, also a multiple-time winner, took home the Windsor Sportsmen’s Club Award for second highest sales of 771 books.

Also repeating impressive sales for a second straight year were the South Central Ontario Fish and Wildlife Association Inc in third place with 652 books of tickets sold and the NDHQ Fish & Game Club of Ottawa, with 572 books. The Windsor Sportsmen’s Club sold 465 books of tickets. In all, more than 400,000 tickets were sold at a cost of $2 each.

All funds generated through the OFAH Conservation Lotteries are used to support conservation programming. The 38th OFAH Conservation Lottery is currently running, with almost $300,000 worth of prizes to be won, including new vehicles, boats and motors and much more. The next early Bird draw is April 13, 2012 and the main draw is May 25, 2012.
