Road Rally Planned for Peterborough Area ISAP crews take to the road in search of invasive species
PETERBOROUGH: The first step in effectively managing Ontario’s invasive terrestrial species is finding where the species are located. The Invading Species Awareness Program (ISAP) is taking on that challenge by hosting road rallies to track, monitor and map terrestrial invasive species in the Peterborough area this week.
The information gathered during the rally will be added to the Invasives Tracking System, a publicly accessible online tracking tool. Knowing where invasives are taking hold helps those faced with preventing and controlling the invaders to coordinate management activities.
The OFAH and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources partner to deliver the Invading Species Awareness Program, the largest program of its kind in Canada, which uses public education and awareness to prevent the introduction of new invasive species, and to help stop the spread of those already here.
With over 100,000 members, subscribers and supporters, and 670 member clubs, the OFAH is the province’s largest nonprofit, fish and wildlife conservation-based organization, and the VOICE of anglers and hunters. For more information, visit www.ofah.org.
