“Bring Back the Salmon” Launches Phase II New Sponsor Comes Onboard as Three Millionth Fish is Stocked
MEDIA opportunities for interviews, photos and video
Next week, on the banks of Duffins Creek in Pickering, Bring Back the Salmon program partners will launch Phase II of their effort to restore a wild, self-sustaining population of Atlantic Salmon to Lake Ontario and its tributaries. Five years into this historic undertaking, the signs are good that their efforts are paying off.
The outdoor event will kick off with the announcement of a major new Bring Back the Salmon sponsor, followed by the release of the program’s three millionth Atlantic Salmon into Duffins Creek by the Honourable Linda Jeffrey, Minister of Natural Resources, and several Bring Back the Salmon sponsors.
The Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH) and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (OMNR) jointly lead the Bring Back the Salmon program, with sponsorship from the LCBO, Banrock Station Wines and TD Friends of the Environment. More than 40 partners contribute to the program, including Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA), government and nongovernment organizations, corporate partners, conservation authorities and landowners. For more information about the restoration program, visit www.bringbackthesalmon.ca.
With over 100,000 members, subscribers and supporters, and 670 member clubs, the OFAH is the largest nonprofit, charitable fish and wildlife conservation-based organization in Ontario, and the voice of anglers and hunters. For more information, visit www.ofah.org.
