Owen Sound youth earns major Conservation award

Owen Sound’s Michael Beach has earned the prestigious Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters’ Heritage Junior Conservation Award.

Michael’s win was announced Saturday night at the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters’ (O.F.A.H.) 75th Annual General Meeting and Wildlife Conference in Hamilton.

As a member of the O.F.A.H. Sydenham Get Outdoors Club, Michael has made a significant contribution through his participation in numerous conservation projects.

Michael has worked on projects such as birdhouse building, cleaning up duck boxes, stream rehabilition, fishing derby, egg collecting and fish stocking to name a few.

The 16-year-old student has a great love for the outdoors and his greatest hobby is fishing, whether it be from the banks of the Sydenham River or out on Georgian Bay. Michael had well over 100 volunteer hours of conservation work last year and is deserving of this award.
