Heritage Centre brings the outdoors inside
O.F.A.H./Mario Cortellucci Hunting & Fishing Heritage Centre opens this month

The O.F.A.H./Mario Cortellucci Hunting and Fishing Heritage Centre is set to open this month in Peterborough. This one-of-a-kind venue showcases Canadian fish and wildlife conservation in an exciting environment that educates while it entertains. Built by the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (O.F.A.H.), the Centre will open for a sneak preview to the public this weekend, April 10 & 11, from 10 am – 4 pm before opening for business on April 16.

“The Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters is proud to open the doors to the new O.F.A.H./Mario Cortellucci Hunting and Fishing Heritage Centre, and to share the history of our outdoor traditions,” said O.F.A.H. Executive Director, Mike Reader. “Anglers and hunters have long been among the leaders in fish and wildlife conservation in North America, and their efforts will be told through an exciting, interactive visitor experience.”

The Heritage Centre features the giant Shimano Sportfish Aquarium, fully equipped Toronto Sportsmen’s Show Amphitheatre, spectacular wildlife dioramas, interactive touch screen stations, an amazing wall of Ontario record fish, plus much more. An educational program is already in place for classroom visits, with content that is tied to the provincial curriculum and delivered by qualified Heritage Centre staff. Appealing to all ages, the centre is sure to become a must-see destination for Peterborough and the Kawarthas.

As the doors swing open to the public, the O.F.A.H. will have realized a long-time dream to celebrate the important social and economic contributions that fishing, hunting and trapping have made to the foundation of the nation and to the conservation of its natural resources. The Heritage Centre was made possible through the generosity of principal benefactor, developer and philanthropist, Mario Cortellucci. Mr. Cortellucci provided more than two million dollars to the project. Many other organizations, businesses and individuals have also made important contributions.

Located on Guthrie Drive just south of Highway 7, the Centre will operate seven days a week, including holidays, from mid-April to September 1. It will run on a slightly reduced schedule for the remainder of the year. Admission is free until September 1, 2010, after which a nominal fee will be charged.
