Youth leaders “Get Outdoors”

The hottest new youth program in Ontario is launching its first ever Ontario Federation of Anglers & Hunters (O.F.A.H.) Get Outdoors Summer Leadership Camp at the world renown Haliburton Forest Wildlife Reserve.

The award winning O.F.A.H. Get Outdoors program is much more than tenting and hiking. When presented with the Canadian Wildlife Federation’s Doug Clark Memorial Award, Get Outdoors was recognized as a leadership training program offering challenges, once in a lifetime experiences, outdoors skills development and much, much more. In short, O.F.A.H. Get Outdoors is one of the best youth-oriented, personal development programs going, says program coordinator Robert Pye who has seen the list of youth groups grow to over 25 clubs in just the past year.

With clubs springing up from Dryden to Brockville and points in between, the O.F.A.H. Get Outdoors Program is one of the fastest growing youth organizations ever. Get Outdoors has a strong focus on youth leadership and development. Adult mentors are part of the program, but it is the Get Outdoors participants that are urged to plan, make decisions and take part in conservation and outdoors activities of their own choosing. The Leadership Camps slated August 6 to 8 and August 10 to 12 are geared specifically to youth who want to prepare for leadership roles within their respective clubs and, ultimately, their communities.

O.F.A.H. Get Outdoors Summer Leadership Camp will bring together aspiring conservationists from across the province for a three-day, action-packed program. Summer camp activities include: a live release fishing tournament, mountain biking, leadership games, archery, target shooting, orienteering, a trip to the Wolf Education Center and much more.

Not wanting financial barriers to stand in the way, the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters is also pleased to offer a limited-time Get Outdoors Summer Camp subsidization. The O.F.A.H. will subsidize each camper registration fee by 50 percent, notes Pye.

O.F.A.H. Get Outdoors Summer Leadership Camps are coed for youths age 8 to 18 but are limited to a maximum 35 participants per camp. Registrations are accepted on a “first come, first registered” basis.

This event offers excellent photo and interview opportunities. For complete information about O.F.A.H. Get Outdoors Summer Leadership Camp, contact O.F.A.H. Youth Services at (705) 748-6324 or visit www.getoutdoors.org
