Attention Moose Hunters: Moose tag deadline extended

Moose hunters now have an extra month in which to submit their applications for the adult moose validation tags.

The Ministry of Natural Resources (M.N.R.) announced April 30 that the May 15 deadline has been extended until June 14, 2002. Moose hunters vying for an adult tag must have their applications and proof of valid moose licence submitted prior to June 14.

Due to the ongoing labor dispute between the Government of Ontario and the Ontario Public Service Employees Union, (O.P.S.E.U.) hunters whose Hunting Outdoors Cards have expired will not be able to purchase a moose licence nor will they be able to enter the adult tag draw at this time.

However, the M.N.R. says the issue of temporary restricted licences may be among options considered should the labor dispute extend toward the new deadline. Because the licencing system has been affected by the labor dispute, the issuance of temporary licences is being sidetracked because it will play havoc with the moose tag pool and draw system, the M.N.R. explains.

Moose licences can be purchased at any one of the 1,200 satellite licence issuers across the province. When submitting for adult moose validation tags, applications can be dropped off at a local M.N.R. office or mailed to:

Ministry of Natural Resources
300 Water Street
Peterborough, Ontario
K9J 7A5.

Applicants should ensure return addresses are clearly marked on the envelope and that sending applications by registered mail is recommended.

Hunters wanting more information may do so by calling their local M.N.R. office.
