W.O.W.! Women wild for the great outdoors

Flowers and cards are nice, but for any of the 200 plus women who’ll be tracking wildlife through the forest, casting for fish or shooting targets on the range, Mother’s day just got to be a lot more interesting and thefun is guaranteed.

Learning new skills, garnering great memories and lasting friendships is what mothers and even grandmothers are anticipating as they attend the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters’ (O.F.A.H) Women’s Outdoor Weekends (W.O.W.) program at the Leslie M Frost Centre near Dorset, Ontario.

Women’s Outdoor Weekends (W.O.W.) is a highly acclaimed, program featuring women teaching women in a hands-on forum emphasizing fun in a beautiful, natural setting.

Among the learning opportunities offered are: firearms handling and safety, riflry and shotgun basics, wild game preparation, bass fishing for beginners, walleye tactics, camping and campsite cooking, map and compass reading, outdoor survival, wild edibles and medicinals, motor boat handling, wild turkey hunting, waterfowl identification plus a lot more. Women may also earn their firearms licence or a boat operator’s licence.

Participants can mix and match the programs of their choice and enjoy a friendly, social atmosphere as they try new skills.

Sponsored by Winchester Ammunition, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Shimano, Ontario Out of Doors Magazine, Outdoor Canada, Bromley Archery, Algonquin Outfitters, Bushnell, Browning, Crosman, Abu Garcia, Buoy – O – Boy, Normark, Quakerboy Game Calls and Monson’s, the Mother’s Day W.O.W. Weekend will take place at the Leslie M. Frost Natural Resources Centre near Huntsville, Ontario May 10-12.

The W.O.W. adventure will continue August 23-25 and October 25-27 at the Leslie M. Frost Centre near Dorset, Ontario. And, for women interested in a one day learning experience, events are scheduled at:

Brant Rod & Gun Club, Brantford October5 for both men and women.

All three one-day events include trap shooting and sporting clays.
