Ensuring the future of conservation
Fort Frances resident honored by peers across the province

The Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (O.F.A.H.) presents the Larry Wallace Memorial Volunteer Award to the O.F.A.H. member who has best ensured the future of conservation by sharing their knowledge and love of the great outdoors with today’s youth. Henry Miller of Fort Frances was honored with the award at the recent 81st O.F.A.H. Annual General Meeting and Fish & Wildlife Conference, held in Mississauga.

"Henry Miller is the epitome of a conservationist, a role model and an educator. His efforts speak for themselves," said O.F.A.H. President Jack Hedman. "the fact that Henry first took home this award fourteen years ago, is proof of his immense dedication to youth and conservation."

Miller is president of the Fort Frances Sportsmen’s Club, where he is involved in virtually all aspects of its operation. He also attends O.F.A.H. Zone meetings, which bring together area clubs to address larger regional projects and issues.

It is his work with the youth that sets Henry Miller apart from his peers. He was the founder of the O.F.A.H. Get Outdoors Club in Fort Frances, and a mentor of its predecessor, the junior conservation club. Miller plans projects and outings for the club throughout the year, from snowshoeing in January to monitoring bird houses in the summer. His projects also include ski hikes to look for animal tracks, wildlife photography lessons, roadside clean up and more. He also actively promotes the Fort Frances O.F.A.H. Get Outdoors Program.

Larry Wallace, for whom the award is named, was a conservationist and long time member of the O.F.A.H. who had a keen interest in introducing youth to the wonders of the outdoors. He believed that the future of angling and hunting rested with youth.

With over 100,000 members, subscribers and supporters, and 655 member clubs, the O.F.A.H. is the largest nonprofit, charitable, fishing, hunting and conservation-based organization in Ontario, and the voice of anglers and hunters. For more information, visit www.ofah.org.
