Board honors President for conservation contribution

Retiring Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters President Jack Hedman was honored by his peers recently at the federation’s annual conference. For the first time in their history, the Board of Directors voted to award a sitting president with the Jack O’Dette Conservation Leadership Award. The presentation was made during the 81st O.F.A.H. Annual General Meeting, held March 19 in Mississauga.

A native of Fort Frances, Jack Hedman is a member of the Fort Frances Sportsmen’s Club, and O.F.A.H. Zone A. He joined the O.F.A.H. 16 years ago, and has been actively involved in many aspects of membership, including in his own club.

O.F.A.H. Executive Director Mike Reader presented the award to Jack Hedman at the Annual General Meeting. "Under Jack’s leadership, the federation has moved forward on many issues and policies," said Reader. "There is no doubt that Jack is well deserving of this prestigious award that has been bestowed upon him by his peers."

The award is given annually to an O.F.A.H. Director in recognition of their hard work and dedication to the O.F.A.H., and is named for Jack O’Dette, a member of the Order of Canada, and a former Director on the Board. O’Dette was an avid angler, hunter and conservationist.

With over 100,000 members, subscribers and supporters, and 655 member clubs, the O.F.A.H. is the largest nonprofit, charitable, fishing, hunting and conservation-based organization in Ontario, and the voice of anglers and hunters. For more information, visit www.ofah.org.
