C.W.S. announces more Sunday hunting opportunities for Ontario waterfowlers

Great news for waterfowl hunters! The Canadian Wildlife Service, the federal agency responsible for waterfowl hunting regulations, has announced that, effective immediately, Pelee Island (Wildlife Management Unit 95) and part of the Bruce Peninsula (Wildlife Management Unit 83) now permit waterfowl hunting to take place on Sunday during the regular fall hunting season.

Last year, in response to the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters’ success in pushing for expanded Sunday gun hunting opportunities, the C.W.S. approved Sunday waterfowl hunting in parts of central and eastern Ontario. The list of municipalities that now support the O.F.A.H. vision for province-wide Sunday gun hunting is growing; in just the past two years, 135 municipalities have passed resolutions in support of Sunday gun hunting.

“O.F.AH. success in expanding Sunday gun hunting has opened the door for the C.W.S. to examine opportunities to increase waterfowl hunter participation, particularly in response to our burgeoning population of Canada geese,” said Dr. Terry Quinney, O.F.A.H. Provincial Manager of Fish and Wildlife Services. “Congratulations to the C.W.S., the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Ontario Federation of Agriculture, as well as dozens of municipalities that clearly understand all of the environmental, social and economic benefits of Sunday gun hunting opportunities.”

In Ontario, fall hunting season is now in full swing and the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters is pleased to acknowledge Ontario’s 400,000 fully trained and licensed hunters who, over the next several weeks, will safely and responsibly take part in Canada’s most celebrated outdoors tradition.
