O.F.A.H. slams Liberal spending on gun registry

The Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters is appalled, but not the least bit surprised, that Liberal followers voted last night to sink another $96 million into the Canadian Firearms Centre, home of the national gun registry.

“As far as the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters is concerned, the federal Liberals are wasting more Canadian tax dollars. It’s another desperate political attempt to prop-up the $1 billion firearms registry that has failed on every Liberal promise to reduce crime and avoid cost overruns,” said Mike Reader, O.F.A.H. Executive Director.

Earlier this week, the O.F.A.H. announced its support for Liberal MP Roger Gallaway after he pledged to deliver a motion to slash funding for his own government’s gun registry program. Unfortunately, however, Mr. Gallaway quickly reneged after a sudden meeting with his boss, Prime Minister Paul Martin.

Instead, the motion was delivered courtesy of Conservative Deputy Leader, Peter MacKay, and supported by over 100 Members of Parliament in a vote that could have been the demise of the firearms registry.

“Congratulations to Mr. MacKay and his colleagues for speaking out against more wasted tax dollars to fund the national firearms registry,” added Reader.
