Across the province, anglers can hook into the official O.F.A.H. Ontario Angler Awards, a new program that now makes favorite fishing tales certifiable.
Spearheaded by the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (O.F.A.H), the new Ontario Angler Awards program is designed to recognize outstanding fishing skills by all anglers, young and old, novice or professional.
“Anglers love telling fishing stories and sharing memories from their outdoor experiences,” said Mike Reader, O.F.A.H. Executive Director. “The O.F.A.H. is very excited to deliver the Ontario Angler Awards, the first and only program of its kind in the province. This program is free of charge, and its already working to inspire more participation in Ontario’s favorite outdoor pastime.”
The O.F.A.H. Ontario Angler Awards is presented in partnership with Tourism Ontario and sponsored by: Berkley, Shimano, Ontario Out of Doors magazine, and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources.
Mr. Reader explained that anglers simply have to catch a fish equal to or greater than attainable size targets currently set for 18 species of sport fish, including walleye, trout, bass, northern pike, muskie, as well as perch and bluegill. Each qualifying angler will receive a collector series decal and a personalized O.F.A.H. Ontario Angler Awards certificate of recognition.
Regular participation in the program promises even more bragging rights as anglers can qualify for the prestigious Avid Angler fishing pin for success in reeling in a variety of species. The O.F.A.H. reminds all anglers to follow the 2004 Ontario Fishing Regulations Summary for details about local fishing seasons, such as dates, size and catch limits produced by the Ministry of Natural Resources.
