Club honoured for its conservation work in 2015
PETERBOROUGH — The Mary Pickford Trophy is presented to the OFAH club considered to have done the most conservation work in the previous year.
Named after the late actress and avid angler, Mary Pickford, this award recognizes the spirit and determination of conservationists in Ontario. The 2015 winner, the Sioux Lookout Anglers and Hunters, was presented with this prestigious award during the 88th OFAH Annual General Meeting & Fish and Wildlife Conference, March 18-19.
A first-time winner of the award, the club owns a lengthy list of conservation-related involvement in 2015.
The club works closely with the MNRF and sits on all pertinent MNRF committees, local citizens committees, Fisheries Management Zone panels, special advisory groups, specific water body groups, and enjoys a positive and successful working relationship with the MNRF District office and its staff.
They’ve worked tirelessly to transform, reinvent and redefine themselves as a local group dedicated to its members and their community as a whole.
The list of events in which they were involved in in 2015 is impressive and includes, but is not limited to an annual conservation dinner, winter fun/winter survival day, family ice fishing derby, public open house at their archery range, the Lac Seul Outdoors Show, Walleye Weekend Fishing Tournament, Junior Walleye Championship and Women’s Outdoor Weekend, member appreciation barbeque, fall clean-up and mentorship hunting opportunities.
The Sioux Lookout Anglers and Hunters continue to demonstrate their dedication to preserving our hunting and fishing heritage.
“The club’s public outreach and engagement is second to none, and what they have accomplished and what they do, day in and day out, for conservation and for our fishing and hunting heritage is the main reason they are taking home this award,” says OFAH Past President Glenn Rivard, who presented the award to the Sioux Lookout Anglers and Hunters.
“When you look at the list of clubs that have received this in the past, I didn’t think there was any chance we could win. There’s such good work done by so many clubs,” says OFAH Zone A Chair and Sioux Lookout Anglers and Hunters club member Jeremy Funk.
