Go Fish! Ontario Family Fishing Events run July 4-12

Canadian residents invited to try fishing during license-free days

Ontario Family Fishing Week gets underway Saturday and clubs and service organizations across the province are getting ready to host some family-friendly events. This popular initiative is designed to bring families together in the outdoors to enjoy fishing on one of Ontario’s 250,000-plus lakes along with countless rivers and streams. During the week of July 4 to 12, fishing derbies and festivals will be running in more than 65 communities, including several in the Greater Toronto Area. The Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH) delivers Ontario Family Fishing Week as part of Ontario Family Fishing Events (OFFE), which is an Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) initiative. The OFAH and its partners are working hard to introduce more people to fishing.

“Fishing gives families the chance to reconnect with nature and spend quality time together,” said Angelo Lombardo, OFAH Executive Director. “We want to encourage everyone to go fishing during Ontario Family Fishing Week to experience a fun activity that will provide them with a lifetime of memories.”

During OFFE, Canadian residents between the ages of 18 to 64 years old who would normally be required to purchase a fishing license, can fish Ontario waters license-free. Conservation license limits apply, as do all other provincial fishing regulations (available at www.ontario.ca/fishing).

OFFE is an initiative of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, organized by the Ontario Family Fishing Weekend Steering Committee. This committee is comprised of the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, Canadian Sportfishing Industry Association, Canadian National Sportfishing Foundation, and Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
