OFAH Celebrates 87th Annual Fish & Wildlife Conference
Hundreds of outdoor enthusiasts, conservationists, anglers and hunters from across the province will gather in Mississauga next week for the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters’ 87th Annual General Meeting and Fish & Wildlife Conference, which runs from March 20 – 21 at the Hilton Mississauga/Meadowvale (formerly the Delta Meadowvale Hotel and Conference Centre).
The new two-day, action-packed format will feature a wide range of fish and wildlife experts from the private sector, academia, and provincial and federal agencies. The annual event is an opportunity to showcase our fishing and hunting heritage and foster discussion about how to conserve our natural resources for generations to come.
Friday’s lineup begins with a presentation by Shane Mahoney, considered one of today’s leading authorities on wildlife conservation. OFAH Executive Director Angelo Lombardo will present the organization’s year-in-review and attendees will hear presentations on topics such as loaded firearms and roadways; climate change and recreational fisheries; and the use of DNA in fish and wildlife management.
Saturday’s schedule is headlined with a keynote address from federal Minister of the Environment Leona Aglukkaq followed by the Conservation Awards Gala. Earlier in the day, presentation topics will include Ontario community hatcheries; the Ontario moose hunting and moose management survey; hunting recruitment and retention; white-tailed deer hunting tactics; and identifying waterfowl on the wing.
Onsite registration opens Thursday, running 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., and continues Friday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Visit www.ofah.org/conference for more details, and connect to the event on Twitter using #OFAH15.
With more than 100,000 members, subscribers and supporters, and 725 member clubs, the OFAH is the province’s largest nonprofit, fish and wildlife conservation-based organization and the VOICE of anglers and hunters.
