OFAH applauds launch of National Conservation Plan
$252 million in federal funding to benefit hunters, anglers and conservationists
The Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH) applauds the launch of the National Conservation Plan (NCP) and the Federal Government’s $252-million commitment to preserving Canada’s natural heritage.
NCP promises to provide a more coordinated approach to conservation efforts across Canada with a focus on enabling Canadians to conserve and restore lands in their own communities and make it easier for Canadians to better connect with nature.
The plan will expand opportunities for hunters, anglers and conservationists to safeguard the land and water around them. The OFAH is particularly pleased that over the next five years the plan calls for $50 million for wetland restoration, $50 million to support voluntary actions to restore and conserve species and their habitats and $37 million to strengthen marine and coastal conservation.
The OFAH, which was one of the stakeholders in the NCP process, making several appearances before the Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development, also recognizes the importance of removing obstacles to the outdoors so all Canadians can foster a stronger bond with nature.
“The OFAH was pleased to have input in the development of the National Conservation Plan and applauds the Federal Government for a robust commitment to enhancing conservation efforts across Canada,” OFAH Executive Director Angelo Lombardo said.
With more than 100,000 members, subscribers and supporters, and 720 member clubs, the OFAH is the province’s largest nonprofit, fish and wildlife conservation-based organization and the VOICE of anglers and hunters.
