Guelph Area Fishing Club Wins Conservation Award

On March 13, 2014, the Royal City Fishing Club of Guelph, Ontario was recognized for its contribution to the conservation of Ontario’s fish and wildlife resources. The club was awarded the Bruno Vanden Berghe OFAH/Conservation Lottery trophy for fundraising success at the OFAH 86th AGM and Fish and Wildlife Conference in Mississauga, Ontario.

“This is the Royal City Fishing Club’s second win in this category, which recognizes the OFAH member club that sells the most books of tickets for the OFAH Conservation Lottery. This past year, they sold an incredible 691 books of tickets to top all clubs,” said OFAH President Bill Blackwell.

The award, which began 36 years ago and has gone to only six clubs in its history, was renamed last year in recognition of a long-time, dedicated OFAH volunteer, Bruno Vanden Berghe, who passed away two years ago.

“Bruno is sadly missed, but clearly not forgotten. He and his wife Yolanda worked tirelessly in support of the OFAH Conservation Lottery and spent years working for the Federation at outdoor shows and the annual conference. Renaming the award in Bruno’s name was a fitting tribute to someone who devoted a huge portion of his life to conservation and the completion of conservation projects,” said Blackwell.

“OFAH member clubs like the Royal City Fishing Club give countless hours working in support of Ontario’s fish and wildlife, and their commitment to the conservation of our natural resources for present and future generations deserves to be recognized,” added Blackwell.
