New Canadians take aim at outdoors traditions

Hunting and fishing opportunities are a cornerstone of Ontario’s heritage. This weekend, the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH) is welcoming new Canadians to the OFAH | Mario Cortellucci Hunting & Fishing Heritage Centre to explore these traditions.

The event, created in partnership with New Canadians Centre Peterborough (NCC) with support from Coleman Canada will take place on Saturday, July 13 from 9:00 am to 11:30 am.

“Nearly 100 new Canadians have come out for the event which is now in its third year. Their passion and appreciation for our outdoor opportunities and resources is contagious,” said Robert Pye, Manager of Business Development & Corporate Messaging. “If the first two years were any indication, this weekend’s event will be rewarding for all involved.”

The event also coincides with Ontario Family Fishing Week which means adult attendees don’t need to purchase a license to fish.

Participation is by registration only and includes:

  • Fishing equipment, bait and lessons by OFAH volunteers at the newly renovated Shimano Fish Pond
  • Instruction on the Heritage Centre’s Excalibur Archery and Stoeger Airgun Ranges
  • The chance to win a Coleman camping prize
  • The opportunity to explore the Heritage Centre’s interactive exhibits

“We appreciate the OFAH’s drive to encourage all Canadians to learn about conservation and experience all that Ontario has to offer,” said Jason Stabler, Interim Executive Director (NCC). “It’s exciting when people from quite literally every corner of the globe come together to share traditions.”

With 100,000 members, supporters and subscribers, and 710 member clubs, the OFAH is the largest conservation based organization in Ontario and the voice of anglers and hunters.  For further information visit www.ofah.org, like us on Facebook and follow us @ofah.
