OFAH Travelling TackleShare is coming to Barrie this weekend

Fishing gear on loan to young anglers at the Heritage Park Shoreline

Aspiring young anglers who would like to try fishing but aren’t sure how to get started or don’t have the gear, can head to the Heritage Park Shoreline in Barrie this weekend. The OFAH Travelling TackleShare Crew will be on site June 23rd and will have everything young anglers need to cast out a line, including rods, reels, tackle and introductory fishing instruction. The OFAH TackleShare Crew will also have information on aquatic habitats, invasive species, conservation and water safety. Visit www.tackleshare.com for details.

Travelling TackleShare is an initiative of the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH) and is generously sponsored by Ontario Power Generation (OPG).

Media are invited to attend the day, which includes terrific video and photo opportunities of youth learning traditional outdoors activities from qualified instructors.

Date & Start Time: June 23, 2013 – 9 a.m.
Where: EASY TO FIND – Heritage Park, Lakeshore Drive, Barrie ON

The OFAH runs two lending programs: TackleShare, which loans gear from over 140 loaner sites across Ontario, and Travelling TackleShare, which brings fishing gear to a variety of events in different locations during the summer. In addition to lending out gear, the Travelling TackleShare crew will give a presentation on fish identification, invasive species, fishing tips and water safety. Both programs are designed to break down the barriers that keep new and young anglers from getting out on the water, and to help youth experience the fun and challenge of fishing.

OPG is an Ontario-based electricity company and proud sponsor of the OFAH TackleShare program. With 65 hydroelectric stations across Ontario, OPG is committed to promoting water safety. Remember: Stay Clear, Stay Safe of hydro dams and stations. Visit www.stayclearstaysafe.ca for more information about water safety.

With over 100,000 members, subscribers and supporters, and 710 member clubs, the OFAH is the largest nonprofit, fish and wildlife conservation-based organization in Ontario. For more information, visit www.ofah.org.
