OFAH invites public to take in summer speaker series

The Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH) is once again offering a summer long lineup of speakers at the OFAH | Mario Cortellucci Hunting & Fishing Heritage Centre in Peterborough and the public is invited. The series, which is designed to showcase outdoor recreation, got underway this week, with Angler & Hunter Television Host Mike Miller’s presentation on bass fishing. The Thursday evening feature is Steve Elmy’s introduction to food plotting and whitetail deer management.

“We are pleased to be running the OFAH Speaker Series again this summer at the Heritage Centre, where we celebrate fish and wildlife and our outdoor heritage,” said Meribeth Stott, OFAH Conservation Education Coordinator. “Some of last year’s favorite speakers are back and some new topics have been added. If you fish or hunt, or just enjoy spending time in the outdoors, we think you’ll find this series both entertaining and informative.”

The OFAH Speaker Series runs weekly through August and include topics such as elk in Ontario (June 16), the secrets to harvesting giant bucks (June 23), the popular Ministry of Natural Resources’ K-9 (canine) unit demonstration (June 30), Wonderful Waterfowl Family Night (July 5), a kids and fishing seminar (July 19) and tactics for catching Kawartha Lakes bass (August 18). For a full schedule and details, please visit www.hfhc.ca.

The series is being held in the Heritage Centre’s air-conditioned Toronto Sportsmen’s Show Amphitheatre which seats approximately 75 people, and presentations begin at 7 pm. There is a nominal $2 charge for admission to the centre, which includes popcorn. Parking is free. Walk-ins are welcome, and no reservations are required.

The centre is open to the public for self-guided tours daily and a series of youth day camps are running during August. Group and school tours are also available by appointment. For more information, visit www.hfhc.ca or call 705-748-6324 ext 100.

With over 100,000 members, subscribers and supporters, and 670 member clubs, the OFAH is the largest nonprofit, fishing, hunting and conservation-based organization in Ontario. To learn more, visit www.ofah.org.
