Grow Me Instead!
OIPC publishes guide to alternative plant choices for Southern Ontario gardens
The Ontario Invasive Plant Council (OIPC) is proud to announce the publication of Grow Me Instead, a brand new resource for Southern Ontario gardeners. Copies of the 48-page guidebook and an online version are being made available in time for spring garden planning and plant purchasing.
Grow Me Instead informs gardening enthusiasts about some of the popular horticultural plants that may cause problems on the landscape. The guide highlights a variety of native and non-native plant alternatives found to be non-invasive in Ontario. Gardeners adding new plants to their garden, starting a landscape project, or removing invasive plants will find the guidebook to be a valuable resource.
“Across Southern Ontario gardeners have been telling us that they want to use non-invasive plants on their property, but need information on invasive plants and better alternatives in order to make the right choices. The Ontario Invasive Plant Council produced Grow Me Instead in response to that need, and we encourage gardeners everywhere to pick up a copy before they do their spring planting,” said Hayley Anderson, Coordinator of the OIPC, which spearheaded the project in partnership with the Horticultural Outreach Collaborative. “Working together, we can ensure that future generations will enjoy the naturally beautiful landscape of Ontario, while at the same time nourishing sustainable communities, healthy ecosystems, and vibrant gardens.”
