Registry foe honoured by O.F.A.H.
Garry Breitkreuz, MP, awarded Certificate of Merit at O.F.A.H. Conference

Since his election to Parliament in 1993, Garry Breitkreuz, Member of Parliament for Yorkton-Melville, Saskatchewan, has worked tirelessly in support of legal, licensed firearms owners. During the 82nd Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (O.F.A.H.) Annual General Meeting and Fish & Wildlife Conference held recently in Mississauga, Ontario, his efforts were recognized before an audience of more than 400 outdoor enthusiasts, when he was presented with the Certificate of Merit.

During his long parliamentary career, Garry has held a variety of positions, including membership on the Standing Committees of Agriculture, Justice and Human Resources Development. He currently chairs the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security. The outdoor community is indebted to Garry for his early recognition of the fact that the badly flawed long gun registry unfairly targets the law abiding, ignores the law breaker, has failed to save lives or enhance public safety, and has cost Canadian taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars.

“Garry Breitkreuz has led the fight to eliminate the long gun registry. Without his efforts, hunters, farmers and recreational sport shooters would not have the visibility, influence and credibility they enjoy on Parliament Hill, and for that, we owe him a debt of gratitude,” said Greg Farrant, O.F.A.H. Manager of Government Relations and Communications. “His persistence, and his advocacy for the repeal of the long gun registry, on behalf of all legal, law abiding firearms owners in Canada has laid the groundwork for others to follow, including Candice Hoeppner, MP for Portage-Lisgar, Manitoba, whose Bill C-391 to repeal the long gun registry is currently before Parliament.”

On Saturday March 20, 2010, Breitkreuz was presented with the O.F.A.H. Certificate of Merit, an honor not frequently given, that recognizes exceptional service to our hunting and fishing heritage, and fish and wildlife conservation.

With over 100,000 members, subscribers and supporters, and 660 member clubs, the O.F.A.H. is the largest nonprofit, charitable, fishing, hunting and conservation-based organization in Ontario, and the voice of anglers and hunters. For more information, visit www.ofah.org.
