Young campers can’t wait to Get Outdoors
O.F.A.H. delivers one-of-a-kind outdoor camp
Leave it to the province’s leading fish and wildlife conservation organization, the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters’ (O.F.A.H.) to offer youth a unique experience in the great outdoors. The one-of-a-kind O.F.A.H. Get Outdoors Summer Leadership Camp provides traditional outdoor activities to 130 children from across the province, and the program is obviously a hit. Every spot at camp was filled in just 14 hours when registration opened in May.
Alesha Caldwell, O.F.A.H. Get Outdoors Events Representative, and a past camper herself, is leading the camp program. "O.F.A.H. Get Outdoors Summer Leadership Camp provides so many activities that youth can’t experience anywhere else, such as archery, fishing and target shooting," says Alesha. "Parents tell us that this camp offers exactly what their children are looking for, and that there isn’t another summer camp like the O.F.A.H. Get Outdoors Summer Leadership Camp anywhere."
Now in its eighth year, O.F.A.H. Get Outdoors Summer Leadership Camp takes place on the shores of North Fox Lake, in the heart of the Muskokas. During two, four-day camps running July 11-14 and July 16-19, boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 16 years try their hand at target shooting, fly tying, archery, and bass fishing and take in lessons in conservation. It is all part of the national award-winning O.F.A.H. Get Outdoors youth program that reaches out to educate and engage young people in traditional outdoor activities, such as fishing and hunting.
The camp offers non-stop excitement, including the Hamilton and Area Fly-fishers and Tyers (H.A.F.F.T.) fly tying station; the Excalibur archery range, featuring Olympic level instruction from Schneller Archery; Cabela’s .22 Sharp Shooter range, featuring Stoeger Canada firearms; kayaking; and a fishing tournament. There is also Survivor-style leadership and team building initiatives, and the always-popular moose and turkey calling competition.
The camp program is supported by Cabela’s, Stoeger Canada, Sako, Excalibur Crossbow and Wilson’s Canada’s Fly Fishing Store, Deerhurst Resort, ERA Tours and many O.F.A.H. members who volunteer their time and expertise every year.
With 100,000 members, supporters and subscribers and 660 member clubs, the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters is the largest nonprofit, charitable fish and wildlife conservation organization in Ontario. For more information visit www.ofah.org or www.getoutdoors.org.
