Antlerless Deer Tag Draw deadline extended one week
Hunters now have until Monday, July 6 to apply for 2009 season

Hunters who have not yet applied for the antlerless deer tag draw now have an extra week to complete their application. The Ministry of Natural Resources (M.N.R.) had originally moved the deadline for the antlerless validation tag draw up a month, from July 31 to June 30 this year, in order to accommodate earlier deer season starts in many areas. The earlier deadline will help to ensure that hunters receive their tags before the season opens.

Hunters with a valid hunting version Outdoors Card can apply to the Antlerless Deer Tag Draw by phone using the automated phone system 24 hours a day, seven days a week by calling 1-800- 288-1155. The deadline for telephone applications is now 11:55 p.m. (ET) on July 6.

Applications can also be filed in person at a ServiceOntario/Government Information Centre during regular business hours. The new deadline for paper applications to be received at a ServiceOntario Centre is 5:00 p.m. (ET) on Monday, July 6.

The Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (O.F.A.H.) received many calls from members who were unable to successfully complete their phone application.

"The annual allocation of antlerless deer tags to licensed hunters is the most effective means the Ministry of Natural Resources has for managing deer populations and reducing potential deer conflicts with people," said O.F.A.H. Wildlife Biologist Ed Reid. "It is important that all eligible deer hunters have a chance to obtain available deer tags."

With over 100,000 members, subscribers and supporters, and 660 member clubs, the O.F.A.H. is the largest nonprofit, charitable, fishing, hunting and conservation-based organization in Ontario, and the voice of anglers and hunters. For more information, visit www.ofah.org.
