Georgian Bay Get Outdoors Club takes provincial prize
Ministry of Natural Resources praises work of local youth group

The Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (O.F.A.H.) held its 81st Annual General Meeting and Fish & Wildlife Conference in Mississauga, March 19-21. Representatives from the Georgian Bay Get Outdoors Club were special guests at the event, as winners of the Ministry of Natural Resources (M.N.R.) Junior Conservation Award.

Leeanna Pendergast, Member of Provincial Parliament for Kitchener-Conestoga, made the presentation to the club on behalf of the Honourable Donna Cansfield, Minister of Natural Resources. Several hundred conference delegates were on hand to cheer the young conservationists.

"The Georgian Bay Get Outdoors Club is well deserving of this award," said Robert Pye, O.F.A.H. Manager, Member Services. They have been actively involved in outdoor activities throughout the year, and show an admirable dedication to the conservation of our fish and wildlife."

The award is presented annually at the O.F.A.H. conference to a youth club contributing the most to conservation in the previous year. Clubs do not have to be affiliated with the O.F.A.H. to be eligible. This is the second time the Georgian Bay Get Outdoors Club has taken home the award. They were previously recognized in 2005.

Running concurrently with the O.F.A.H. conference was a two-day O.F.A.H. Get Outdoors Youth Conference, which was attended by 80 children and teens from across Ontario. The March break event included a full slate of onsite activities and field trips to the Royal Ontario Museum and the Toronto Sportsmen’s Show.

With over 100,000 members, subscribers and supporters, and 655 member clubs, the O.F.A.H. is the largest nonprofit, charitable, fishing, hunting and conservation-based organization in Ontario, and the voice of anglers and hunters. For more information, visit www.ofah.org.
