O.F.A.H. applauds move to scrap long-gun registry
Conservatives deliver on promise to eliminate wasteful, ineffective registry
The Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters continues to keep up the fight for law-abiding gun owners and applauds the move by Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day to re-introduce a bill to eliminate the long-gun registry.
“We are pleased that the Conservatives are delivering on their promise to scrap this legislation,” said O.F.A.H. Executive Director Mike Reader. “Obviously the government recognizes that the federal long-gun registry is a dismal failure. Millions of taxpayers’ dollars have already been wasted on this program. The registry is not achieving its intended goal of reducing gun crime, and how could it when it’s so focused on tracking law-abiding hunters?”
The O.F.A.H. has fought for years to scrap the ill-founded long-gun registry on the basis that high standards are already in place to ensure that law-abiding long-gun owners are trained and licensed. Mountains of petitions, press releases, letters to editors and politicians, a Supreme Court of Canada challenge, and two historic rallies at Parliament Hill in Ottawa have been supported by the O.F.A.H. They have also met face-to-face with political leaders from all levels of government to strongly express the sentiments of beleaguered Canadian gun owners.
The Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters is Ontario’s largest fishing and hunting organization representing 82,000 members and 655 member clubs.
