O.F.A.H. Get Outdoors Club goes wild at Wye Marsh and hosts kids’ fishing tourney with NHL legends on Georgian Bay

This weekend is going to be action-packed for youth members of the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters’ national awarding winning Georgian Bay Get Outdoors Club. In Midland, Get Outdoors is supported by the Georgian Bay Hunters and Anglers.

In celebration of the Wye Marsh’s Rhythms Festival, the Georgian Bay Get Outdoors Club is hosting its wildly popular kids’ turkey and moose calling championships, which take place starting at 1 pm on Saturday, September 22, 2007.

“Wildlife calling events are a great way to spark young people’s interest in the outdoors, because they learn about animal habits and behavior and mating rituals as well as how mastering these calls plays a role in the traditions of hunting. No matter what your outdoor interest, game calling provides a fascinating way to interact with nature, and the Georgian Bay Get Outdoors Club is pleased, once again, to bring this program to the Wye Marsh Rhythms Festival,” said Michelle Vardy, O.F.A.H. Get Outdoors Club Mentor.

Also, on Saturday, September 22, the Georgian Bay Get Outdoors Club will host a kids’ fishing tournament featured as part of the Legends on the Bay celebrity pro bass event. Winners of the youth fishing tournament will be included in the 2:00 pm celebrity weigh-in, where they will meet some of hockey’s greatest legends including Darryl Sittler, Wendel Clark, Kris King, Bob Probert, Dave Hutchison, Dave Burrows and local NHL celebrity, Chris Kontos. “The Georgian Bay Get Outdoors Club’s involvement in the community is a testament to their commitment to promoting youth outdoors participation. The O.F.A.H. and the Georgian Bay Get Outdoors Club strongly believe in providing youth outdoor opportunities, and local volunteer efforts this weekend demonstrates what can be done when O.F.A.H. members work together,” said Keith Beecroft, O.F.A.H. Get Outdoors Coordinator.

O.F.A.H. Get Outdoors is the flagship youth conservation initiative of the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, the largest fishing, hunting and conservation organization in Ontario. Visit www.getoutdoors.org
