Cobourg-area landowners talk streams and salmon Special conservation workshop tonight at Cobourg Arena Nearly 110 years after Lake Ontario’s original salmon were declared extirpated, the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (O.F.A.H.), together with the Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority (G.R.C.A) and other partners, are hosting a special Stream Stewardship Community Workshop in Cobourg. This special presentation coincides with the recent provincial launch of the Lake Ontario Atlantic Salmon Restoration Program. The Community Workshop will take place at the Cobourg Arena (Pad 2) on June 20th from 6:30-9:30 p.m. The workshop will consist of program talks and discussions on how local residents, landowners and community groups can get involved in stewardship projects on Cobourg Brook. Photo and interview opportunities will be available. The Lake Ontario Atlantic Salmon Restoration Program is a massive five-year project that was officially unveiled on April 27 by the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters and its conservation partners, including Banrock Station Wetland Foundation Canada, the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (L.C.B.O.), the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and the Canadian Sportfishing Industry Association. Earlier this spring, 60,000 Atlantic salmon fry were released into Cobourg Brook — one of the three tributaries selected to participate in this history-making conservation effort. Cobourg Brook is an extremely healthy watershed and was a historically prominent Atlantic salmon stream.
