Fort Frances’ M.N.R. biologist earns O.F.A.H. professional recognition

Anglers and hunters from northwestern Ontario are proud to work with an M.N.R. biologist whom they nominated to win one of the province’s most distinguished professional honors, the R.G. Morgan Professional Conservation Award.

Darryl McLeod, of Fort Frances, is a proud O.F.A.H. member who has successfully dovetailed his passion for the outdoors with his passion for his career as a biologist with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources.

Named after the former O.F.A.H. Executive Vice President, Rick Morgan, the R.G. Morgan Professional Conservation Award recognizes conservation-minded professionals who, as part of their employment, have made the most significant contribution to our natural resources.

On Saturday, February 18, Darryl McLeod was applauded by hundreds of O.F.A.H. members, outdoors industry representatives and many of his fellow M.N.R. colleagues who attended the three-day O.F.A.H. Annual Wildlife Conference, in Toronto.

In presenting the award, O.F.A.H. President John Ford recapped Mr. McLeod’s long list of professional and volunteer contributions including: coaching local students for Envirothon competitions and science fairs; working closely with the public and local clubs on fishing and hunting issues as well as fundraising events; producing a fisheries atlas and pushing for more fisheries research on Rainy Lake; and ensuring the safe return of bass caught in the Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship.

Jack Hedman, O.F.A.H. First Vice President said, “There are many qualities exhibited by this young man that sets him above and beyond the vocation of a biologist. Darryl is a true conservationist and a valued friend of the Fort Frances Sportsmen’s Club and the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters.”
