It’s going to be a rigorous, yet fun-filled week for about 100 youth leaders now headed for the wilds of Haliburton Highlands to enjoy the only conservation-training camp of its kind.
Presented by the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (O.F.A.H.) the annual O.F.A.H. Get Outdoors Summer Leadership Camp brings together some of Ontario’s most promising youth conservationists. The event is slated for August 3 to 9, 2004.
Kids from as far north as Thunder Bay, to the high-rises of Toronto, will experience life at an actual moose hunting lodge on the property of the world renowned Haliburton Forest Wild Life Reserve.
O.F.A.H. Get Outdoors Summer Camp activities include: a bass fishing tournament, leadership games and night hikes, archery and target shooting, kayaking and swimming, a trip to the Wolf Education Center and much more. Most importantly, campers will learn about various conservation projects that they can utilize in their communities.
“Graduates of this conservation-leadership camp return to their hometown youth conservation clubs with a solid background in resource management as well as personal leadership,” said O.F.A.H. Get Outdoors Coordinator, Robert Pye. “The O.F.A.H. Get Outdoors Summer Leadership Camp encourages kids to get involved in traditional outdoor activities and local conservation programs.”
Pye said that the growing popularity of the O.F.A.H Get Outdoors Summer Leadership Camp is incredible and no doubt is related to the modern era that leaves many young people disconnected from nature.
Three years ago, the O.F.A.H. launched the Get Outdoors initiative that has led to the creation of 43 youth conservation clubs throughout Ontario.
