FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FEBRUARY 27, 2004

The impacts of an invasive invertebrate, the habitat use and survival of mallard ducklings and growing trophy walleye are three topics that we should find out more about.

These topics were chosen as research grants awarded at the 76th O.F.A.H. Annual General Meeting and Wildlife Conference at the Doubletree International Plaza Hotel in Toronto.

Angela Strecker from Queen’s University in Kingston will look at the impacts of the spiny water flea and the foodweb dynamics in the Canadian Shield Lakes as part of the O.F.A.H. Conservation Research Grant she won on Friday, February 27, 2004.

On the wildlife side of things, John Simpson, from the University of Guelph, will study the habitat use and survival of mallard ducklings in the Great Lakes region as part of the O.F.A.H. Wildlife Research Grant.

Scott Kaufan, from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo won the O.F.A.H. Sport Fisheries Research Grant and will look at growing trophy walleye and the effects of different prey communities.

All three received their grants from Terry Quinney, O.F.A.H. Provincial Manager of Fish and Wildlife Services.
