Kids Get Outdoors at the Spring Fishing Show, in Toronto

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FEBRUARY 19, 2004

Next week, over 25,000 children and families will Get Outdoors as part of the largest, most diverse youth conservation exhibition in Ontario history.

Presented by the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters and Ontario Out of Doors Magazine, the Get Outdoors youth exhibition is a special feature of the upcoming Spring Fishing Show, February 26 to 29, at the International Centre in Toronto. The event also runs in conjunction with the O.F.A.H. Wildlife Conference and Annual General Meeting, taking place at the Doubletree International Plaza Hotel.

“The 2004 Spring Fishing Show is where kids can participate, free of charge, in an awesome showcase of hands-on activities,” said O.F.A.H. Get Outdoors Coordinator, Robert Pye. “The O.F.A.H. and Ontario Out of Doors Magazine developed this event to provide a jumping-in point for kids’ inherent fascination for the great outdoors,” he said.

The Spring Fishing Show Get Outdoors exhibition includes free trout fishing sponsored by Fishing Forever and Kids, Cops and Canadian Tire, and indoor rock climbing sponsored by Powerade. Other free kids activities include: fly tying and outdoor art, archery and target shooting, and lessons in fishing techniques and outdoor survival. Kids can also look for clues and help solve the crime at the Get Outdoors Crime Scene Investigation (CSI). The Get Outdoors Wildlife Calling Contest, sponsored by Knight & Hale Game Calls, will take place on Saturday, February 28, starting at 2:00 p.m.

“Students, teachers, parents and community volunteers should also attend the Spring Fishing Show to learn how to start a youth conservation club in their community through the O.F.A.H. Get Outdoors program,” said Pye. Get Outdoors is the conservation phenomenon that has inspired the creation of 41 youth-outdoors clubs across Ontario. Since the program’s inception in 2001, O.F.A.H. Get Outdoors has helped introduce hundreds of kids to conservation, leadership and wide variety of outdoor pursuits, Pye added.
