For Immediate Release

This month, over 100 women will throw out their busy day-planners and hectic weekend schedules to take part in Ontario’s highly acclaimed Women’s Outdoor Weekend presented by the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (O.F.A.H.).

The O.F.A.H. Women’s Outdoor Weekend is slated for September 19 to 21, 2003 and hosted by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resource’s Leslie M. Frost Centre, near Dorset.

Rhonda Sowers, O.F.A.H. program coordinator and an avid angler and hunter herself, said, “The Women’s Outdoor Weekend is an important chance for all women to develop new outdoor skills, learn about conservation and enjoy the great outdoors with like-minded friends. We know that many women want to make the outdoors a greater part of their personal and family lifestyle. The O.F.A.H. Women’s Outdoor Weekend is a jumping-in point for women of all ages to learn lifelong outdoor skills and gain confidence in the wilderness.”

Women’s Outdoor Weekend activities include: lumberjack sports and fishing tournaments, archery and target shooting, night hike and wolf howling, as well as outdoor cookouts and survival training. Attendees will also participate in conservation workshops to learn about fish and wildlife projects they can start in their own community.

For almost a decade, the O.F.A.H. Women’s Programs have inspired participation by hundreds of women from all parts of the country, and from all walks of life. The program has been successful because of its non-competitive, supportive atmosphere. Outdoor skills workshops are for women, taught by women.

Attention assignment editors: The W.O.W. program will feature a media day on Friday, September 19, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with opportunities for activity-based outdoor photo opportunities and an archery contest between media representatives who attend. Free lunch for our media guests will also be provided.
